Beating me down
Oooh, winter quarter is roaring. Sooo much information presented and we're not even 2 weeks into the quarter. Don't know how much free time i'll have to blog this quarter, but i'm gonna try.
Overall, I'm happy with the classes, they're run pretty well, the instructors are pretty good, and the material is interesting (well, instructors can't even make glycolysis, the TCA cycle, oxidative phosphorylation, and the pentose phosphate exciting...unless they make a song about it.) Histology is pretty interesting, gotten the hang of using a microscope. I've woken up at 6:30 or 7:00 AM the past 3 days and am gonna do it again tomorrow for 8am classes (well tomorrow i'm bringing my car in for maintenance). Physiology is interesting, but a lot of math that i wasn't expecting. Doctoring is more intense now that we're learning physical exam skills more in depth. Our small group facilitator has a patent foramen ovale (small hole in between his left and right atrium) and some of my classmates have benign (innocent) heart murmurs. it's pretty cool. i also learned how to draw blood in clinic last week. couldn't get the vein on our difficultly veined diabetic patient, though, but it was a humbling experience after getting the vein on my classmate.
christian is coming out here in less than 2 weeks! he's leaving maryland a day or two later than scheduled, but he will still arrive on the 23rd. i am so, so anxious for him to be out here that i fear the next 11 days will go by so slowly. so to counteract the anxiety, in addition to studying, I'm going to lake tahoe this weekend (as far as i know) with some other classmates. and then in two weeks (his first weekend), i'm skipping class on friday (i feel so rebellious!) as Christian and I to go to down to San Jose, meet up with Tammy, and go to Big Bear with the rest of the ol' college crowd (+ loved ones/family). it's gonna be so much fun! AND i get to go snowboarding more than once this season!
