Jamaica me Crazy
it's COLD here! >:o
despite the apparent allergic reactions i was having due to a medication i had taken the previous week (which caused me to break out in hives whenever my skin got irritated, making Christian think I was allergic to him, and me thinking i was one big allergic reaction), Jamaica was a nice and relaxing vacation. we chilled at the beautiful beach in Negril most of the time, got massages, and free drinks from our all-inclusive package. the area was still recovering from Hurricane Ivan; i saw lots of uprooted trees, some damaged walls, and some torn roofs. the Jamaicans were desperate for our business. we also went shopping and i got a really pretty sarong and other random souvenirs. Of course, we didn't get to do everything we wanted to do because of time/money. I wanted to go to YS Falls, 1.5 hours away, so i could swing from a vine and into a pool. (yeah, i'm weird.) Christian wanted to go snorkeling, but the day we were gonna do it it was raining for most of the afternoon, and it was Sunday, when most things were closed. ohwell, next time, right?! hee.
okay, so you know how Jamaica is a honeymooner spot. so when we were in Miami waiting for our connecting flight, there were a few people that asked us if we were on our honeymoon. and we be like, "uhhh.....no!"
this continued during our trip there, a lot of people asked us that. it was kinda funny.
one of my favorite highlights was our last night, when we went to the West End of Negril to catch the sunset from the cliffs of a restaurant. People were cliff diving! christian and i both wished we'd brought our swimsuits cuz we totally would've tried it. it's basically you just jump from a cliff (doesn't have to be terribly high, the one we saw was about 25 feet) feet first into the clear water below. i took videos of some German guys doing it and one local Jamaican who ran from the patio, got some wicked air, and into the water. you knew he'd been doing it for a while.
i do have tons of pictures of scenery and sunsets. the carribbean is so beautiful and warm. the ocean is warm and clear, the people are really friendly when they're not aggressive, and if you like spicy stuff, the jerk chicken is top-notch.
FINALLY my letters of recommendation are being sent out. i just have to send out U Maryland and UVA this week and i'm DONE WITH SECONDARIES! let the interviews and rejections start coming. and i STILL haven't heard from UCSF.
