Where is My Mind?

3.27.2004

oooh, haven't blogged in a while. lately, things have been pretty busy with work and mcat studying (what's new?). i start feeling burnt out around wednesday each week, which isn't a good sign, but i'm trying to pull through. 3 more weeks. i don't know if i should be scared or anxious or ready to get it done. or maybe all three.

work is going pretty well. i have to redo my regressors to make the analysis more sophisticated, which sucked for a while, but i think i'm almost done. then comes reanalyzing EVERYTHING with them. i kept getting sidetracked this week with the skating world champs going on, watching programs on european satellite feeds from the internet. but my bosses didn't suspect anything.

When i've studied at Barnes & Noble, the tables there are hot commodities. I remember in the Costa Mesa store, people just had a table to themselves, but here, people tend to share. And they're really nice about it. One time i sat across from this woman who was a 3rd year med student at U of Maryland, studying for her surgery rotation test. She was so nice, she even gave me her email address if i had any more questions about school.

i HATE driving down Wisconsin on the way to Georgetown. The roads are so bumpy, i cringe and feel for my car every time i hit some kind of imperfection in the road. not to mention that my mileage has been sucking ass...i understand it's from all the stop and go, but it still sucks. normally i'd be at 175, 180 miles at half tank, but now i'm at 130 or so at half tank. but at least gas prices are cheaper here than in cali, and i fill up about every month or so (i've only filled up once since my car's been here, not too shabby).

Last week i saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Good movie. (I'm a sucker for these memory movies. I had to forgive them for their brain scanning technology with my MRI knowledge. It's an interesting concept, but memory is more complex and they wouldn't get such nice brain maps from looking at a single artifact! sometimes i can't help getting all scientific with movies. Like with Moulin Rouge, everyone would've gotten TB, not just Nicole Kidman's character, with the way she was coughing all over the place with people around. so sue me.) I just came back from seeing The Ladykillers. That one was odd. Tom Hanks seemed transplated from the 50s into a 90s setting.

Erin and i went to a party last weekend hosted by one of the girls in my lab. She has a beautiful apartment in Woodley Park. Good times; it was nice to not be surrounded by so much historical/political conversation (which seems to dominate with Jeff & co.). Erin and Megan made dinner tonight and Megan made some awesome bread pudding.

I'm so happy spring is here :) Lots of cherry trees are blooming all over the place, i'm so sick of my peacoat that i refuse to wear it anymore, thank god the temperatures are a little warmer. Peak bloom will be when the cambridge crew is here :) But i'm still gonna go see the trees tomorrow with some IRTAs. No expectations, hopefully i can get some good pictures like last year. At least it's not snowing!

Things to do before Janet, Julia, and Albert come:
~fix up the townhouse (vacuum, laundry, etc)
~i'm in dire, dire need of a haircut
~resolve this auto insurance issue (i need new insurance b/c they don't have the company my parents used back home)
~get on the lease so i can get a parking permit and not park in the visitors spots anymore (i get worried about being towed again), and get my leaky bathroom faucets fixed.
