Where is My Mind?

2.02.2004

i think i've gotten over the anxiety of scanning for the first time today. hopefully things go smoothly this afternoon/evening. the most recent hurdle i got over was turning the preganancy test order into phlebotomy; kara had gotten some grief over turning it in w/o a Dr.'s signature, and i was worried that the clerk would call me on it when i turned the form, but she just took it and said thanks. whew! so the Presentation script is done, forms are ready...let's go get some data!

in other news, NYC was great. cold. but good. The drive up to NJ had some traffic (damn the beltway...i can see how people can get really annoyed by the traffic - 2 miles in 20 minutes! geez! with no side street alternative too...i would HATE to have to commute into the city by using the beltway. Erin and I dropped the car off at the MetroPark station and got a ride into the city thanks to some family friends. We also got free lodging and free food thanks to them too. We didn't have to pay for anything! it was great.

The show, of course, was great. our seats were all the way on the side of the mezzanine, but you could still see the actors pretty close up. i didnt need my binoculars. Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick are great. Matthew Broderick's Leo Bloom is more subtle than Martin Short's, who was more hysterical and anxious. Still, Broderick is so cute and lovable. He would do these cute little gestures with his security blanket that i wasn't able to see with Short. The girl that played Ulla was the same girl i saw in LA, but unfortunately the guy that played Roger DeBris, the o.g. guy on broadway and the one i saw in LA, wasn't in on this performance. The guy that played DeBris instead was still good too - since i could see their expressions a lot more closely it was still funny. He's really campy. The pidgeons weren't as funny as they were in LA, i think, but still cute. I also realized that during "Springtime for Hitler," when the actors make the swastika formation, that it's one actor attached to two manneqins on the side. i didn't notice that before (i was too busy laughing. see original review in June 2003).

As much as i loved this show, i don't know if i can see it again, especially since i've seen it with the 4 most famous stars. (my wallet hurts, too) Unless they get better people. But i doubt anyone can match Lane and Broderick.

On the way home, we missed the off ramp to the NJ turnpike and got lost for about 10 minutes. The stupid sign was not visible enough to see until we actually passed it. And to turn around, we had to make about 5 right or left turns because you couldn't make a U or Left turn normally. New Jersey's so backwards. Experiences like that make us not like NJ even more. Erin was glad we were driving through the turnpike in the dark "so we wouldn't have to see New Jersey." hee.

next musical on our list: RENT (finally able to see it on Broadway) or Wicked.
