Mmm...well this has been an interesting week....i think i only had lunch by myself maybe once or twice. i have tons, tons of reading to do now that Pat has given me something to kinda sorta work on, in addition to keep trying to learn fMRI basics and terminology. got most of my paperwork done, some trainings out of the way, and booked some things for the future (plane/bus tickets, etc). but for the past few days i've been reading or looking for papers. i'm turning old, i want to fall asleep at 11:30pm or 12 with the hours i'm putting in just sitting at my desk trying to stay awake after not getting a full night's rest.
the past couple of nights have been pretty cool though...i went to happy hour at Rock Bottom with some other IRTAs and chatted with a few people; i'm still getting to know people in my own lab too. that was pretty fun, and again, i know for a fact that my maximum number of drinks is 2. cuz i frickin got tipsy halfway through my 2nd drink and i was feeling it for the remainder of the night until about 10pm or so. that' s fine though, i only spend $5 total on the two drinks combined. (yay happy hour).
today i went with some people up to Baltimore to hear Michael Moore (the guy that did Bowling for Columbine) speak at Johns Hopkins. That was pretty enjoyable, i really liked it. He's funny, yet he makes you think, and they had a very intelligent q & a session afterwards. Perhaps it's the first step to being politically conscious since i haven't been all that educated about it. Driving around afterwards cemented my sentiments that baltimore isn't really my kind of city even after seeing it the 2nd time around, but the Hopkins campus looked really nice, from the small snippet that i saw. very green, bricky, classic looking. it felt weird taking the metro home so late at night (around 1:30am or so) but i was on the red line so it wasn't too bad.
let's see...i want to take a bike tour of the city this weekend, but i have to double check if their fall foliage tour is still going on...if not i guess i'll do the Capital Sites tour. Paris got me hooked on bike tours. If no tours this weekend, i'm thinking of going into the city and walking around, maybe heading to georgetown and checking out the foliage; i've seen lots of trees with fall colors and i want to take pictures . maybe i'll go to a smithsonian museum too. i have columbus day off for once!
