paris was so fun. that next day we went to notre dame, walked around the latin quarter, shopped, visited the jardin de luxembourg (very pretty), started to rain, had dinner at some french country restaurant, had escargot (not bad, good pesto garlicky sauch), went back to our hostel to drop off stuff, and went to the eiffel tower. in the cold. and rain. took the metro back and packed for amsterdam.
amsterdam
arrived there in the afternoon, had no trouble finding a place to stay because ppl were advertising places off the train platform.
had turkish pizzas for lunch that was our cheapest lunch, 1 euro apiece. it was funny cuz the lady who served it to us said 3 euro (total) but her husband wanted to charge us 1.50 each, but she argued with him in turkish to keep it at 1 euro cuz we didn't have anything added to it.
went to the heineken experience, had an excellent time there. we all recommend it, not just for the free beer and free souvenir glass, but because the bottling ride was hilarious. very creative. we then had indonesian food (kinda) at a restaurant and then went to a comedy show similar to comedy sportz. sarah and i walked around town later that night and ended up walking through the red light district.
WHY guys suggest that girls go through it is beyond me. it's damn scary! we got accosted too many times by seedy guys.
ok just need to outline for now, need to pack clothes for maryland.
next day, went to rijksmuseum, shopped around. it was raining so we couldn't do much. had a space cake in the train station
missed the train exit for cologne cuz i got drowsy from the cake, ended up separated from laura and sarah and ended up in frankfurt by myself, had to get back to bonn, delayed. the door freakin closed on me, i was JUST there. freaked out for 5 mintues before calming down.
bonn - spent time with laura's aunt and uncle. very cool, they have a nice house and we had home cooking. walked around town, saw beethoven house, had german cakes.
took the train to brussels in the morning, ended up taking a later Eurostar train to london, so we spent 4 hours in brussels, had lunch, got chocolate, walked around. arrived in london at 8, there was some weird hassle with our hostel in Camden town. sarah had to spend the night in another room with weird austrailian roomates. our hostel was also above a bar (the reception was in the bar, the breakfast was in the bar) which turned into a nightclub at night, so she had the worst of it. laura and i were in a room a floor above her.
the next day we walked through the Camden Market, went to westminster abbey, lunch at mcdonald's, walked through the national gallery (laura was very bummed Lady Jane Grey wasn't there...it's on tour and will be at the Met next month), had dinner at the Tate and walked through the Tate that night (it was open late).
next day, walked through the british museum, lunch, more british museum, and then saw The Reduced Shakespear Company. we had front row seats and the cast members called us "the princesses in the front row" which was ironic becasue we'd be calling our selves princesses for a while now, hehe. walked around later that night, saw Pirates of the Caribbean (again for me and sarah, the first movie laura's seen in months), had haagen daz at the haagen daz restaurant in leicester square, took a cab back becasue we barely missed the tube.
then we flew home. boo.
