Where is My Mind?

7.23.2003

Dr. McGaugh had lunch with us undergrads today. it was a very enlightening lunch. i'm moreso in limbo now as to what to do with the rest of my life. Life with a PhD seems so much more enjoyable than life as and MD. He's so well travelled, lots of things are paid for, and he still has time for family and fun. And he's still involved in the discovery and learning of new things with regards to his lab. He advised us that working hard demands lots of committment, no matter what. stick to what you have to do to do well. I've been really priveledged to work in two different lab environments but i've been so priveledged to work in the McGaugh lab. the stuff we do is so interesting and the things we study are really cool, in my opinion. Who doesn't want to learn about how memory works and how emotion relates to it?

Then i go to the hospital and work with the patient care assistants and the patients, and they love us volunteers so much. it's really interesting learning about what the patients have, cuz most of them, at least on the 6th floor, are pretty open to communicate why they're in the hospital, and it's fascinating to me to learn how the body works and how doctors know so much to be able to fix things that are wrong when the body stops functioning normall or is stressed by something like surgery.

aaaah....what to do! i think i know this much, i don't want to go for an MD/PhD combined degree cuz that takes waaaay too long...
