Where is My Mind?

ahh....must...commit...to memory....because my consolidation skills are not what they used to be!!

One of my new favorites - THE PRODUCERS

mini review - SOO Funny! I was laughing most of the time. it was great. great acting, great singing, great music, great dancing, great songs, great sets. although most reviews were saying "it's not as good as the NY production," hell, i have nothing to compare it to, except maybe the soundtrack and DVD, but what i saw was incredible.

Highlights:

how can they NOT have a souvenir program 1.5 months into the show?!?!?!

well, first, in the playbill, jason alexander's blurb was hilarious

martin short is great as leo bloom, especially when he's hysterical. he acts so forlornly and scared. he has this little blue handkerchief (like linus and his blue blanket) and when he first goes hysterical when jason alexander's character (max) makes him nervous, i was laughing tooo much...it was great! "we can do it:" i love songs when individual characters sing diffrent lyrics together.

there was one scene when the audience was laughing too much that even jason alexander started laughing too and i think he just skipped some lines and moved on.

"I wanna be a producer:" such a cute and dreamy song. when the showgirls appear there's one not-as-pretty-lookin' one and when leo sees her he screams so...startedly it's hilarious. this happens a few times during the number. dancing was great here too, lotsa tapping. i love this song. i particularly like the end when he goes "there is a lot more to me than there is to me!" and "here's my visor, my dixon ticonderoga #2 pencil, and my big finish!"

"in old bavaria" and "der guten tag hop-clop:" PIGEONS! oh man, those pigeons were funny. they would flap their wings every once in a while and sway and flap with the music. and when Franz calls the pidgeons by name they flapped both wings, right, but the last one he calls was "Adolf!" and the bird raised just one wing, a la Hitler....it was soo funny. and Max and Leo kept not trying to laugh when saying "Adolf...Elizabeth..Hitler."

"keep it gay:" i really liked this number too....Carmen was hilarious, when he would go offstage he would keep his hand showing on stage, flaunting his bling bling ring all sexy-like. DeBris really did look like the Chrysler building in a dress. all the characters that came out were sooo gay looking, it was hilarious. hilarious, i tell you! and then these other characters come out, like the YMCA people.

"when you've got it, flaunt it" Ulla is really tall. or either jason alexander and martin short are really short. total swedish blonde bombshell. hehe, she dances neat too. very happy number. the Ulla who performed also performed on broadway...she was great. very powerful voice. and a great dancer...i wish i could dance like that. neat accent too...meeester bloooom.

"along came bialy:" hehe, he goes to "little old lady land" and there are all these old ladies swinging and jumping on trampolines thanks to him. and who knew that people could use walkers as a tap dancing device? that was a great dance number.

hehe, i guess they improvise on the names of some things from show to show...for instance, when max is playing games with the old ladies, they say different game names from the soundtrack...hehe i guess the girl likes saying "well hung" because the games were "the virgin milkmaid and the well hung stable boy" (and oh my god they actually played it on stage...jason alexander was "shifting" his..yeah. hahaha) and the 2nd game during this song was "the poodle and the well hung great dane." hahaha.

the first act finale was great...all these characters singing their own thing...the keep it gay guys, the along came bialy old ladies, ulla, franz, and the two main characters, and then they all come together. wonderful!

(intermission) dude, the place was PACKED. i got my tickets in september and i was in row PP (after the single letter rows). dead center, which was great. i was sad erin wasn't able to see it with me.

"that face:" hehe, it opens with the office completely painted white, thanks to ulla, and when they asked her "when did you do this?" she says, "eentermeeeshon" and when she's trying to flirt with leo she goes, "why does leo go so far downstage right?" hehehe. this was a nice song, ulla looks all cute and beautiful. i laughed when they're talking about each other the lighting people put up multiple pictures of each other on the walls (from the lights...hard to explain) and then they dance, it's really cute, b/c leo's so insecure.

"you never say good luck on opening night:" hehe i liked it when max starts saying "good luck!" and then making people walk under ladders and breaking a mirror and throwing a black cat through the ladder into the door.

"springtime for hitler:" OH MAN this was HILARIOUS. first there are these showgirls coming out with various german icons on their heads and hips...beer, pretzels, and my personal favorite, sausage. who'd've thunk singing about hitler cold be so funny. and catchy! and when hitler finally comes out first he's all mean looking and heiling and stuff, and then takes this totally gay pose.(b/c the gay director filled in when the original guy broke his leg)...the original guy who did this on broadway was doing this...i can totally see it. he totally deserved the tony. and "heil myself" is great....i was laughing sooo much. too catchy. the lyrics are GREAT. and my personal favorite was the "tap off" between hitler and the other countries. it was like a tap dancing battle, first between stalin, then churchill, and then roosevelt. and THEN...these german soldiers come out, singing, and there's a mirror behind them , and then the move into a swastika formation and the mirror moves such that the audience can see it....and they rotate around and stuff...EVERYONE was laughing by then...it was great.

afterwards, max and leo are fighting to get the accounting books, and they're both on the floor, and leo's all "give it to me!" and max is "no!" a number of times, and then roger and carmen come in while this is happening and they're just ECSTATIC. hehe and when the police come roger goes "carmen, it's time to go back into the closet" and they hide..and then they act all gay when they're discovered and the police let them go. funny stuff.

and when everyone but ulla and leo are there, i found this particularly funny...ulla suggests they run to rio, and leo goes, "jail or rio? damn, what a dilemma!"

"betrayed:" hehe, i loved the really fast synopsis of the previous events...what's particularly funny is jason alexander goes "intermission!" and the lights change and it's silent..for quite some time...and so everyone's laughing, and then jason alexander is mumbling like what the audience would be saying..."yeah..he's good...but he's no nathan lane..." and EVERYONE bursts out laughing.

"till him" i liked this song too...very nice and touching.

the finale was great too (how many times can i say this was great?)

i think it may have been worth my $97 ticket...

so yeah. take home message...GO SEE IT! save up the money. hopefully the run is not sold out.
