man, this week was long. and it's still going..and going...and going...
memorial day weekend was nice. erin was back in town for a couple of weeks so we hung out, catching up on stuff and chatting. i'm sad she's not gonna be in dc next year but she got a really sweet deal at notre dame that she shouldn't pass on. we had such an ordeal trying to buy shoes and we ended up getting the same pair of shoes. this is the 4th or 5th time this has happened throughout the years; i think it's rather funny. i also went shopping with sarah and laura for birthday presents and matrix clothes shopping for the mn.t. i got this snazzy shiny pleathery white tank top and mini skirt at hot topic and a white pleathery jacket at a thrift store. very money.
tuesday was the 199 lab meeting for the mcgaugh lab and almost all the graduating seniors presented stuff. it was rather bittersweet because they gave the seniors who did Excellence little etched glasses and Dr. McGaugh spoke on how he's jealous we get to have an undergrad research experience when he didn't get to. (i'm also pretty glad he knows my name now and can recognize me =). i know dr. carew recognizes me but i don't know if he knows my name!) we had a pretty nice potluck following the meeting and i took lots of pics with the other undergrads and the grad students. i'm seriously gonna miss working there; the people are great and the subject matter is fascinating.
wednesday was tammy's surprise birthday dinner. we thought we had blown the surprise when she saw amanda and david driving and she waved at them, and when i called alan to say everyone was there i forgot to extend the conversation so it' woudln't be as suspicious...but she was still surprised. she had no idea. and we then proceeded to get her pretty drunk off a cosmo and a long island. now, the dinner was at joe's crab shack so for birthdays they make the celebrant dress up and ride around the restaurant in the costume. hehe, they dressed her up in a clown suit and gave her a wooden pony on a stick thing and she was still pretty drunk...it was really funny. drunk tammy's a lot of fun =). she kept giving us hugs. constantly.
thursday was the last c-rep official training day = skits! interesting stuff. tons of fun. Commodores were cool and consistent; i'm so proud of them! Kool & the Gang had some neat rapping about Ralph Ciccerone (aka ralph ciccerone-y), village ppl had a pretty funny skit based on snl, but it was a little extreme at times; and the BeeGees had a funny scooby-doo based skit. afterwards laura and i made it over to the arts school for lynne's senior exhibition gallery opening; pretty fun! interesting stuff. and i ran into a lot of people there. lynne's pieces came out really nice. then janet, ki, tony, and i saw Reading Frankenstein at the Beall...that was interesting too. the acting was really good and i really liked how they integrated all these technical and scientific stuff on the screens. i had flashes of the matrix going through my head for a few moments during the presentation.
friday i didn't get much sleep cuz i was finishing up my lab report and then i had to go to the hospital...afterwards i stopped by Reggaefest and ran into ppl from lab. it was one big drunken beer fest. dan offered me his beer but i only had a couple of sips before i remembered i was driving to the banquet later on. We proceeded to get free pizza and more beer at Neurobeer; i had a little cider bottle. poor pat was pretty drunk by then and he was walkin a little funny when we were walking back towards the student center later on. i rushed to get ready for the banquet and laura and i were a little late, but it was ok. nice view! we were at the OC mining company; some high school was having their prom there that night too. they have a really nice view of santa ana and we even saw some of the Disneyland fireworks from there. it was a really bittersweet banquet b/c so many ppl were leaving; i teared up a little at times.
so the banquet ran a little over so we didn't have much time to prep ourselves for the mn.t...overall it went pretty okay. the newbies got soooo drenched though! but it ended earlier than last year's so we got a decent amount of sleep before the retreat on saturday. that was pretty fun. i felt a little off at lunch b/c i was getting a weird vibe from certain vet reps and i was a little quieter than i usually like. it was weird...suddenly i felt like it was freshman year of high school all over again when my "friends" wanted to phase me out of their group. but then i played the cup game with other ppl and i felt a little better. but it was still in the back of my head. Then they announced the team placements, and the Commodores won! yay! i'm so proud of my team, even though i wasn't there as often as i'd like to be... so i was pretty excited. This means that i did a Three-peat for campus rep training - my Goonies team won our training year, Full House won last year, and now The Commodores. and i won't go down in a blaze of fire like the lakers trying to go for 4 because i'm leaving already. woo hoo! so the retreat ended around 3:30 and i proceeded to take a 2 hour nap before...
laura rickhoff's bday party! she turned "6" this year. again. =). nice, low key get together with pizza and games. and toffee squares. yum. i passed on going to the improv show later that night b/c the week was getting to me and i was starting to get sick. i went to bed at 11 but didn't end up falling asleep until 2am. my cold got a little better though during that time, though. but i still didnt get enough sleep before i had to get ready to go to..
disneyland! the randomest people went together as a group - me, amanda, david, albert, john, yousuke, and his friend liz. all from different circles of friends. we ended up arriving a little later than planned because i underestimated the time it takes to drive around irvine to pick everyone up. so we ended up entering the park around 10. we got to do a lot of stuff - the lines were relatively short and the only major waiting was at splash mountain. the rides though seemed a lot shorter than what i remember...maybe i'm getting old. how sad. but the rides we went on at cali adventure were cool. that rollercoaster is sooo smooth and comfortable. no jagged movements or anything! and the gliding ride is very nice - makes me want to see that bird movie. since none of us got enough sleep the night before we left the parks a little early (around 7pm) and i proceeded to take a 2 hour nap when i got home. now i'm awake. and i have tons of studying to do!!!! argh.
ah well. tomorrow's the coldplay concert. really looking forward to it. and maybe then i can rest.
