Good Poker Face

Oh, another addition to the never ending vacation, the Monday following our return from the Outer Banks was the IRTA skip-work day Farewell trip to the IRTAs trip to King's Dominion, VA (i.e., lab-sanctioned, lab-OK'd day to play :) David was pimping as the only guy in our group, and it was a LOT of fun, for those amusement park enthusiasts. My favorite ride was the first one we rode, Volcano. There are a lot of new coasters that feature "launches" upon starting, instead of the typical "click click" up a hill. Launch coasters scare me a bit. When Volcano started, the launch lasted so long i was screaming, "WHEN IS IT GONNA STOP?!?!?!?!"

The next coaster, Flight of Fear, started in similar fashion. It's kinda like space mountain because it's in the dark, but a with a lot more loops, etc.

King's Dominion has a LOT of fun coasters rated 4-5 (high/extreme thrills). I rode all the 4s and most of the 5s. So much fun! The only 5 i didn't ride was Hypersonic, which launches you from 0 to 80 in less than a second, then brings you straight up and down. While waiting for Kara, David, Laura, and Tracy to go on the ride, I practiced taking pictures of riders as they launched. You could really see the terror on their faces as the ride started. It made me think, wow, you could use faces like these for studies, because it's real terror/fear and not acted out. I got a blurry picture of Kara's terror and a more focused one of Tracy.

So, the title of this post refers to last night. Every 2 weeks Christian's friend Kevin hosts a poker tournament at his place, $20 buy in. This was my 3rd time playing there. the first time i got 5th/6th place, the 2nd time i was 2nd out, because all the tips Christian was feeding me on the ride down were all interefering with each other. (and then sometimes I just don't pay attention...oops!) Anyway, this time I played very well, being conservative, yet aggressive, I even bluffed a couple of times :) and got 2nd place!!! Total winnings, $78 :) Subtract the 20 i put in, the 20 i lost before, and the 10 i spent the 2nd time (christian offered to pay for half that time), and i net profited $28. Not too shabby. Now, i'm not gonna get too into it as Christian is, but i think the fun is back, now that i've won something :) hee hee.
