Where is My Mind?

Okay, let's try this hour again

GRRR

i'm gonna do this on a text editor first:

okay....the week between christmas and new year's was pretty uneventful. i did go go-kart racing with janice and her friends, which was very cool. we got to wear suits and helmets, the whole....dilly-yo.(?) anyway, it was a lot of fun, and i placed 6th out of 10th. you even get a printout of your results, with avg speed, top speed, # of laps, etc. it's really neat. i don't think it's worth the $25 for about 20 minutes of racing, however.

that week was also the start of pretty much constant rain. which FINALLY cleared up today, 2 weeks later.

Christian came on New Year's Eve, and he couldn't have come at a better time. (rain! j/k) I was scared he might miss his flight because i thought he was cutting it a little close, but when i went to track the flight on the internet (cuz i'm a stalker like that) i noticed that it was delayed for about 20-30 minutes. relieved, i went to pick him up. it was a very movie-like reunion. we both totally lit up when we saw each other through the sliding glass doors, it was very cute.

anyway, so the reason his flight was delayed was *because* of him! he got to the check-in counter 6 minutes after his flight was to leave and they were able to get him onto the plane by tagging him as a "runner" with ALL of his luggage. when he got to the gate, the had to 1. put the jetway back onto the plane and reopen the door and 2. reopen the baggage door and put his baggage in. i've never heard of planes doing that before, but it was good they let him!!

New year's eve was a lot of fun. Amanda, David, Laura, Erin, Christian, Albert, his posse, and I went to Akbar, this bar within walking distance of my house in Silver Lake. We got there early enough to slowly overtake the back section, intimidating 2 couples away. It was alot of fun hanging out, getting buzzed, etc. They passed out party hats and horns before midnight and started counting down from 15 seconds. Then the most anticlimactic thing happened. Everyone yelled 'HAPPY NEW YEAR!' and screamed and tooted their horns for about 10 seconds. And then everyone went back to drinking since the free champagne was flowing

The bar was also very Silver-Lake-y. It's been touted as a gay-friendly straight bar or a straight-friendly gay bar. it was more of a gay bar that night, especially when one guy shouted to another group of guys to us, "those guys have small dicks! if carrie were here she'd walk out!" (referring to carrie of sex and the city fame). Only in Silver Lake....

New Year's day was spent recovering from a hangover headache, watching some of the rose parade (and finding out there are saxophones in marching bands after making the connection that christian played sax and he played in band...DUH!) i drove him around hollywood and sunset blvds, through the microcosm of society, i like to call it, on the way to hermosa beach to hang out with christian's old college roommate, Chris. he's a very mellow guy with a kickass job working for VANS's Snow Division on their boots and helmets and bindings. (it's more kickass because he works on top of a starbucks right next to the pier. it's ridiculous how close he is to the beach) We ate at a Thai restaurant, which reminded me of how relieved i felt knowing that the JETers were in jakarta that weekend and not affected by the quake and waves.

The next day was a wonderful sunday champagne brunch at Castaways, but then it started raining some more. Gift exchange at Sarah's was fun, it was good to see everyone. Monday we went to the Body Worlds exhibit near USC, which was very much worth the wait to see it since i knew it was coming last summer. Some of the poses were a little excessive, however. But it was very cool nonetheless. My favorite thing was the blood vessel family. You know what i'm talking about if you've seen the exhibit.

Tuesday was spent walking around Hollywood and eating at Roscoe's before I jetted over to Irvine for my interview the next day. Christian got to spend the evening with Erin, jeff, and her parents, and then chill at Dresden with Erin, jeff, and squid. fun stuff.

my interviews on wednesday went well, i think....i was looking forward to that day so much, and i saw lots of familiar faces. i had a really good time there, and i hope i hear good news from them.

i then jetted back home to pack and head out for San Francisco with Christian, Erin, and Jeff. we listened to the American Idiot CD, which i really want to get, among other things on the way. 7 hours later we got to SF and stayed with her friend, Mike. he and his roommates are cool. one of their roommate's friends reminded me of Susan from back here, it might have been the glasses.

The next filling day consisted of walking around Dolores Park (lots of cute dogs and an incredible view of the city), chilling at Mike's workplace, a brewpub called the 21st Amendment, Fisherman's Wharf, Ghiradelli Square, and Karaoke! Karaoke was so much fun. it was a day chock full of activities.

The next day, after spending the night in San Jose, we went to Monterey, but it was raining so much we couldn't really enjoy it (plus the guys were sleep deprived). So we drove around some more and stopped at a winery to do a tasting. It was a lot of fun, we stopped at Ventana Vineyards, which the lady said was the winningest vineyard in California (or the US as well). we tasted lots of wines, i got tipsy, and bought a bottle of the dessert wine. jeff got a gripload, as well as a little wine wheel that tells you what works well with what dish. After another long bout of driving, we ended back safe and sound. Christian wasn't too happy with the lack of sleep, but he had a good time. He left on saturday while it was still raining.

That day i went to Newport, where Eric was having a little get-together, and i got to see more irvine people that i haven't seen in forever - meera, dana, luis, andrea, julie, and dustin's old roommates. it was good hanging out and catching up with everyone. Eric was housesitting for his brother's family, and they have this humongous dog, Rondo, who's real friendly. i was scratching his stomach and he did the whole raising his hind leg and scratching. reminded me of my dog :)

that night i had dinner and hung out with the cambridge crew. sushi and undercover brother. that's a funny flick.

Today was the most eventful day since then...had to get to USC by 7:40 for my student interview and spent most of the day there till i had to go to Good Sam at 3. I think i had the most spread out schedule out of all the people in my interview group. ugh. but i think both went pretty well, my faculty one better than my student one, in my opinion. my faculty interview is a plastic surgeon and he said an interesting statement: that one important combination of fields is psychiatry and plastic surgery, since one has to encounter patients and ask them for their motivation for having things done to them - is it something within, or is their husband eyeing his secretary? i thought it was pretty relevant, given our day and age and the way society is.

so, i am fully updated again. i fly at the buttcrack of dawn tomorrow =P
